Gov. Hickenlooper addresses access to health care at Aurora town hall

AURORA | Gov. John Hickenlooper spoke at an Aurora middle school Aug. 17 about the importance of access to affordable health care with an extensive provider network for Colorado residents’ well-being.
Hickenlooper addressed a crowd of about 100 people at North Middle School during a town hall meeting titled “Bringing Health Care Home”, hosted by Aurora Health Access.
He emphasized the importance of incentivizing people to lead healthier lives and be more active amidst busy schedules and limited funds.

Task force continues push to boost health care access in Aurora

AURORA | It was inevitable that Aurora resident Pete Moreno would need hip surgery after a car accident that shattered his legs about three decades ago. Moreno never seriously considered the surgery until recently, but now, he can’t afford health insurance.
Moreno, owner of a small Aurora business called Industrial Pumps and Valves, spoke at a Feb. 16 Aurora Health Access task force meeting and told the group of more than 100 people how important it is for a person to be informed of their health options.

Health care task force reaches out to eateries

A local health care group is reaching to ethnic restaurants in an effort to make its owners and employees more aware of health care coverage options.
Aurora Health Access, a task force made up of more than 30 local health care professionals and community advocates, will begin targeting ethnic restaurateurs early next month. The goal is to give employers information about public insurance plans that offer help to low-income residents, such as Medicaid and CHP+, said Rich McLean, a task force member and a parishioner at St. Therese Catholic Church.

AURORA | The Aurora Health Access task force received a grant in mid-September totaling to about $20,000 to educate patrons and owners of ethnic restaurants in Aurora about newly available public health coverage.
The grant was awarded to the task force Sept. 16, by the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing.

Aurora Health Access officially launched in January with a commitment to promote all facets of health in Aurora, while making it a point to increase access to care for residents and improve the line of communication between health care providers.
